Realizing this would never happen, they would occasionally gift me with books they understood to be actual quality (read "not really science fiction") and hopefully more highbrow than my usual diet of pulpy adventure. Next term break, I plan to re-read Accelerando. It might be best described as underground electronic post-punk new wave. Jon Peterson is the author of Playing at the World, a history of role-playing games and wargames. McCafferey’s anthology is more of a literary retrospective, with the advantage of some hindsight situated several years later (1991).
